Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 14 - 20, 1870

14th Wednesday  fine weather for the season  I did my choars was at the office all day choared round closed up at 8 went to bed at 9.  Caroline started for home.

15th Thursday  fine weather for December  I did my choars was at the office a choaring round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] Caroline came home from Iowa today in afternoon Barrus went to the station at one & met her there.

When Caroline traveled home to Warrenville from visiting family in Iowa she could have taken the Burlington Route which ran south of Warrenville through Naperville or the Chicago & North Western that ran north of Warrenville through Turner Junction (West Chicago) and Winfield.

16th Friday  fine weather for winter some cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.

17th Saturday  fine day but some cloudy  I did my choars was round the office choaring all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.

18th Sunday  fine weather for winter some cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick.

19th Monday  Snowed conciderable all day and made quit decent sleighing  I did my choars was round the office & house all day a choaring & closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick  Emma Anesworth went to D Kenyons to work about 2 or 3 oclock & got his supper came back & went up & stayed all night, Caroline went up when she got supper [in margin] Emma Anesworth left here went to Dan Kenyons.

20th Tuesday  A cool day snowed & blowed some  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.”
