Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 9 -15, 1870

9th Wednesday  fine weather but some cool & cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

10th Thursday  cool cloudy weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick etc.

11th Friday  rather disagreeable day rained some and hailed & frozen rain & snowed some during tonight was rather disagreeable weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick  H Gould came to Naperville.

12th Saturday  the snow 2 inches deep & crust, some frozen rain fell & some snow it snowed hard near night & during the night  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 or after Henry Gould came home in forenoon eat dinner & stayed all night, took supper at Wal Jones.

13th Sunday  A cloudy disagreeable morning with several inches of snow on the ground, drifts 3 feet deep in places cleared off & was quite pleasant & thawed  I did my choars was at home the most of the day went to office for McKee about 2 & in evening came home & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick, Charles Barrus took Caroline Walla Emma & Mr. Gould to Naperville to Sam Martins started about 11 A.M. as large a snow as we have had this winter.

14th Monday  rather winterlike  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about ½ past 9, nearly sick.

15th Tuesday  A stormey day & night the worst storm we have had this winter  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out about a foot of snow on the ground all drifted up.”
