Hiram E. Leonard Diary, August 17 - 23, 1870

17th Wednesday  fine weather for Aug but hot  I did my choars was round the office a choaring all day cloased up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out  Mr Samuel Rogers died about 20 min before 10 had been sick about one week.

18th Thursday  rather a fine day but more cool, I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring round  I closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out  Mr Rogers was buried today at 1 oclock Elder Lahmon preached, Wallace Jones died between 12 & 1 today suddenly.

19th Friday  rather a find day & dry  I did my choars was round the office all day choared some cloased up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out  W W Jones was buried at 2 oclock Elder Ellis preached at Baptist Church a verry large congregation house full.

20th Saturday  A fine pleasant & not verry hot  I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring closed up 8 ½ & went to bed at about 9 ½ sick, Caroline & Emma Stone went to Aurora  Rod Smith carried them Cal got her new teeth came home 4 was taken sick after going to bed was sick all night, Gran com Rockford [in margin] Mrs Dasenbrook left.

21st Sunday  A fine pleasant day, I got up at sunrise to get med for D Kenyon he had been sick all night with Cholenemirlis I did my choars was round the house all day achoaring laid down but someone kep calling me up Caroline sick abed all day & I about sick  Mrs Stone & Emma Stone & Sarah Ressequie called to see her  I went to bed about 9 nearly sick.

22nd Monday  fine hot weather  I did my choars was at the office a choaring round all day  did but little closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out [in margin] I got my pigs.

23rd Tuesday  A fine pleasant day & hot  I did my choars was at the office all a choaring round etc closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with hot weather.”
