Hiram E. Leonard Diary, August 24 - 30, 1870

24th Wednesday  fine warm dry weather  I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.

25th Thursday  fine pleasant hot & verry dry weather  I did my choars choared round the store all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick etc.

26th Friday  A fine hot dry day with a  good air  I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with hot weather etc  Emma Stone was sick during the night with the disentary here.

27th Saturday  A fine hot day & cool evening  I did my choars was at the office all day a choaring round etc closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with the heat etc Emma Stone went to Naperville and got her picture taken to give away.

28th Sunday  A fine pleasant day and verry dry & hot with a good breeze I did my choars was round home a choaring & writing and etc  went to bed about 9 nearly sick & worne out  Frank Gary was here today before noon  white yearling heifer to bull, went to bull.

29th Monday  fine cool weather for the season  I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring etc  cloased up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out Caroline went to Naperville to get shoes etc.

30th Tuesday  A fine cool pleasant day  I did my choars choared round the store got my dinner & supper  closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worn out with the heat etc  Caroline & Wallace started this morning in the stage 8 ½ to go to Iowa.”
