Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 7 - 13, 1871

7th Wednesday  cloudy damp growing weather  I did my choars was at the office all day choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick Joseph Lehman got home from Borbon school.

8th Thursday  A damp growing day  I did my choars choared round the office all day choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick my 2 year old heifer calved this morning & I went up and milked her the first time  Joseph Lehman came home from Borbon school today instead of yesterday & James Tart / Olin Resseguie went to Naperville & came home drunk and had a quarrel on my steps.

9th Friday  A cloudy rainey day  I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out  Charles Derby died today & is to be buried next Sunday.

10th Saturday  cloudy in the morning, more pleasant during afternoon & cool pleasant evening  I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out.

11th Sunday  A cloudy damp sprinkling morning but pleasant in afternoon, I did my choars and Jerry F Pollard came about 10 ½ & went up & sheared Wallaces sheep  I went with him we got a little before one  I wrote some & about 3 oclock went to Kenyons to pick some strawberrys came back & did my choars & went to bed about 9 nearly sick  Charles Derby was buried today, my 3 fleeces of wool weighed, one 9.15 oz 8.11, 7.7 in all 26-1 oz  The locus are verry think this season as well as the potato bugs & a doing conciderable harm amongue trees & grain.

12th Monday  fine cool growing weather  I did my choars was round the office all day a choaring & closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick etc.

13th Tuesday  fine growing weather & cool  I did my choars was around the office all day a choaring closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick.”
