Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 6 - 12, 1871

6th Wednesday  fine cool weather but verry dry  I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] O A Procter at Berrys today some time  Barrus thrashed some today one stack  H T & Wm Graves stayed at my house night.

7th Thursday  fine weather for the season but dry  I did my choars choared round the office all day  closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out  Barrus finished thrashing this morning & brought me 86 bushels of oats there was 256 bushels in all  Edward Mulnix got home from Memphis with his sister Rose Rogers said Jerome & May Rogers had gone to get married.

8th Friday  A fine day cool nights & warm day  I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick  May & Hannah went to ball at Plainfield  [in margin] Pratt came to see L Gary.

9th Saturday  fine cool weather at night & warm at noon verry dry  I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9  Caroline had a letter from Eliza that she was agoing to start next month 16th [in magin] Pratt came to ______?

10th Sunday  A fine day but cool  I did my choars choared round house some fixed wine called at Kenyons went to the farm etc went to bed at 9 nearly sick [in margin] Jude Garys wife had a daughter born today Doct Waterman attended upon her.

11th Monday  fine weather for the season but dry  I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.

12th Tuesday  fine dry weather  I did my choars was round the office a choaring all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick [in margin] fair at Aurora.”
