Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 27 - July 3, 1872

27th Thursday  A fine pleasant day & verry hot & dry  I did my choars choared round some all day closed up at about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick there was a concert at the Baptist church tonight Laton Manville & a Mrs Barker were married today & a Mr Coleman and Nora Cobb were married in Chicago.

28th Friday  A fine hot dry day, sprinkled a little in afternoon  I did my choars, choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick  L V Resseguie sheared Wallas sheep & charged 4/ for shearing 3, they weighed as follows one 8-8, 8-6, 5-8 in all 23 ½ #, Sara Brown and Ward & her husband & his mother hear agoing to Kenotia.

29th Saturday  A cloudy morning & looked like rain  we had a light shower about 9 & cleared off hot  I did my choars choared round closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 tiard & sick Mary Tart stayed  Ward his wife & mother left herein afternoon for Kenosha or near there have gone on to a farm  Emma Anesworth & D Kenyon went to Naperville.

30th Sunday  A dry hot day with but little air  I did my choars choared round some went to farm and went to bed about 9 tiard & about sick  My red cheeked heifer went to the bull today about 9 oclcok A M  Emma & the children went to meeting today at the Baptist Church.

July 1st Monday  A fine pleasant warm dry day  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick with a cold  the heifer with one horn off went to Williams bull to Garys, Ben Paver commenced taking up my well.

2nd Tuesday   A fine pleasant hot day & verry dry  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at about 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick  Henry worked on my well in forenoon.

3rd Wednesday  A fine hot day & verry dry cooler at evening  I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick  Caroline came home from Iowa this morning about 9 oclock  Walked down from Winfield and was about tiered out  Jerome Beardsly & Margaret Rogers were married at the Junction today.”
