Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 6 - 12, 1872

6th Thursday  A fine rainey steddy rainey day, a grand rain  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ or 10 tiard & sick with a cold  Wallace Wrays sheep had a fine lamb today, yew lamb, Pelham was a going to Aurora with Caroline, but put it off till Saturday.

"7th Friday  A cloudy damp forenoon & cleared off in the afternoon & evening  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 10 sick with a cold.

8th Saturday  A fine pleasant hot airey day  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold  Mr Pelham went to Aurora today  to carry Caroline to get Barruses children some clothes to go to Iowa next week a Wednesday  They started about 7 or a little before & got back 10 minutes before 3 in the afternoon.

9th Sunday  A fine pleasant day with a cool breeze & some clouds  I did my choars eat breckfust & started for my timber with William Colling & Wallace Wray about 9 looked all over it & got back a little before noon, Mrs Anesworth had come back, McKellips & Em Barrus had got here we went to bed about 9 & I was tiard soar & about sick with a cold & walking up to my timber  Emma Barrus & McKellips came here a short time  I went up to my timber to see how it looked.

10th Monday  fine growing weather for June  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 tiard and nearly sick with a cold.

11th Tuesday  fine growing weather  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

12th Wednesday  A fine day but looks like rain  I did my choars choared round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold & tiered out  Caroline Willson started this morning about 8 ½ with 3 of Barruses Boys for Iowa in the stage, William John & Reuben Barrus.”
