Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 11 - 17, 1873

“11th Thursday  damp cloudy muddy weather  I did my choars choared round some at office closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick.

“12th Friday nasty muddy rainey weather & snowed during the night several inches  I did my choars was at the office all day  whitewashed the store some closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out  They had a Ball at Perrys Tavern  John Brown ded today at Tom Browns menger.

“13th Saturday  quite a fine day with the ground covered with snow a beautiful clear night  I did my choars was round the office all day & whitewashed some closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ sick.

“14th Sunday  A cool day but most beautiful & clear & pleasant with the ground covered with snow  I did my choars went to farm & choared some was at house a writing etc the most of the day went to bed about 9 nearly sick.

“15th Monday  fine weather for the season  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold etc.

“16th Tuesday fine winter weather for the season  rough wagoning  I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about ½ nearly sick with a cold  Mike Spader carried B Pavers wife off to Wheaton some time tonight while Paver was asleep.

“17th Wednesday  fine weather for winter I did my choars choared round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold  Paver went up to Wheaton to have his trial with Spader & saw Spader there & heared of his wife, Spader did not appear & the suit was dropped, Paver took Spader and he was locked up in the jug because he could not give bail  They fined Spader 5 dollars in a suit of an assault before.”
