Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 24- 30, 1873
“24th Thursday A cold nasty snow squalley day about 4 inches fell during day & night rough weather I did my choars choared round some closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ sick with a cold [in margin] snow fell from 4 to 6 inches.
“25th Friday cool weather the ground covered with snow but it all went off during the day I did my choars choared round some closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ sick with a cold Emma Stone came up to Frenches today.
“26th Saturday A cool cloudy raw day I did my choars choared round some closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ sick with a cold Emma Stone and Lucy French came here this afternoon & stayed a while & went back to Frenches before supper.
“27th Sunday rather a fine warm day with some clouds & looked like showers I did my choars choared round up to the farm half of the day wrote some etc went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick with a cold Emma Stone & Lucey French came here towards noon & stayed till about 4 or after meeting & went to Frenches again & then to Naperville.
“28th Monday rather cool backward weather I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
“29th Tuesday cool cloudy backward weather I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
“30th Wednesday cold wet backward weather I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ sick with rheumatism & cold.”
