Hiram E. Leonard Diary, August 21 - 27, 1873

21st Thursday  verry hot dry weather  I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ sick  thurmometer all the week has been from 95 to 100 degrees above zero in middle of day  finished making soap & carried home kettle tomorrow.

22nd Friday  fine hot dry weather  I did my choars choared round some in office closed up about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out  Picknick in Jones Grove  I went over river to see a light in Mrs Jens house.

23rd Saturday  fine hot dry weather  I did my choars choared round the office some closed up about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out  Joseph Coakly & Ellen Dady were married this forenoon about 10 oclock at the Catholic Church & then went to Wm Herrens and had a fine time the rest of the day & about all night  Jerry Dad & folks & all the Connells went to Herrens.

24th Sunday  A fine hot dry day  I did my choars went up to my place toar down one howel came down & washed me about noon & changed my clothes wrote some etc went to bed about 9 nearly sick  my folks went to both meetings  R B Pollards came along with the Sherriff about 10 agoing to Naperville to see his wife who is but just alive, has to be helped off the bed  R B Pollard called & see me as he went back to Geveva.

25th Monday  rather a fine day began to rain about 4 & was rather a wet night  I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick  My stub horn cow went to the bull today.

26th Tuesday  rather a wet lowerey forenoon & a pretty fine afternoon & evening  I did my choars choared round some closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½  My red cheeked cow went to the bull today in morning.

27th Wednesday  fine hot weather & dry  I did my choars choared round the office some closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with fatigue & trouble  Emma Stone mooved to Naperville & Caroline went down with her  they had T Jones horse & waggon Caroline got back about 3 ½ oclock.”
