Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 15 - 21, 1874

“15th Wednesday  fine dry weather but cold  I did my choars was round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 tiard lonesom & nearly sick  Mrs Stone & Caroline took dinner at Ada Bostwicks in Cherokee Iowa today & then went up to Abner Stone.

“16th Thursday  A cool pleasant day freezes a nights  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold  Caroline & Emma Stone went to Obrion, Caroline wrote a letter home to Willa.

“17th Friday  fine cool weather & dry  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at about 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold  Cummings from Joliet came here & stayed at Perrys all night & spent the evening at Rogers  Willa got letter from his mother.

“18th Saturday  rather a fine pleasant day but cloudy & looks like a storm at night grew colder  I did my choars was round the office all day & choaring some out of doors  shut up at about 8 ½ & went to bed a little before 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold  Willa played ball some & Jonna Daidy coax me to let him go a fishing up to the bend  he did not come home & George went after him and I went about 9 & met them amost up to the bend a comeing home his trip made him about sick all night  Cummings stayed a Perrys.

“19th Sunday  A cold raw day with the wind in the North East  I got up about 6 was round home the most of the day went up to the farm after breckfust  I wrote some etc George Sidwell was here till after supper I went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold  Willa was quite sick this morning & got up before I did  he eat but little breckfust & puked it up soon after eating then he felt better & took a nap  A steddy rainey afternoon & evening George here all night  Goos laid the first egg today.

“20th Monday  A cloudy damp muddy morning & more pleasant in afternoon  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9  Cummings went home this morning.

“21st Tuesday  more pleasant but cold  I did my choars was at the office all day closed up about 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold & rheumatism.”
