Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 14 - 20, 1875
“14th Wednesday rather a warmish day & the snow thawed off but grew more cool towards night & froz during the night I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & cold.
“15th Thursday A cold day with the ground & water frozen I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold & the rheumatism The old Goos began to set tonight.
“16th Friday A verry cold day for the season froze all day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold & the rheumatism Henry Rogers stuck a pitch fork tine into the corner of his eye while foddering.
“17th Saturday A cold day but thawed some in the sun I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism etc.
“18th Sunday A cold morning & a cold air all day but warmer than yesterday & some cloudy, I did my choars was round the house all day about sick except going up to the farm about 11 to fix some fence etc.
“19th Monday A fine cold dry day roads good I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism.
“20th Tuesday A fine cold dry day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Thomas Green said to start to Springfield to get Hurbut Hollister pardoned out of states prizon by the Governor which he did.”
