Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 8 - 14, 1874

8th Wednesday  fine cold weather  I did my choars was round all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 nearly sick with a cold  Mr Brass & Jenna Curtiss were married at the Col & started off Fitch Bently was buried at Big Woods.

9th Thursday  A cold raw disagreeable day  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 10 sick with a cold.

10th Friday  A cold raw day roads pretty good  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a  cold [in margin] snowed some.

11th Saturday  A cold raw day & windy  I did my choars was round all day closed up at 8 and went to bed about 10 nearly sick with a cold  Mrs Stone went to Naperville with her goods for  I and Ed Rogers took them ________ Mrs Stone went to Garys & stayed all night.

12th Sunday  A pleasant day with a cold wind  I did my choars was round the house all day went to bed about 9 ½ sick with a cold  Mr H N Goodrich & his son & brother came here from Aurora & stayed a few hours & took dinner or supper & George Sidwell was here  Mrs Stone went to meeting & they all went to the burying ground after Mr Goodridge went home.

13th Monday  A fine cool day for the season  I did my choars was round home most of the day got some little cherry trees for Mrs Stone & current sprouts & some gooseberry roots etc was here all day busy in getting Caroline & Mrs Stone ready to go to Iowa tomorrow  I closed up about 8 & we went to bed about 10  I was about sick with a  cold.

14th Tuesday  it rained last night & was muddy this morning & grew some cool towards night  I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick  Mary Tart & Kate Connell stayed all night  Mrs Stone & Caroline Willson started this morning in the stage for Iowa Cherokee.”
