“January 1st, 1874 Thursday A cloudy damp day & warme I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick Mrs May V Potter married to a Mr Ellis at Waukon Iowa.
“2nd Friday A warm damp misty day & night I did my choars choared some at office closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with cold Protracted meeting tonight.
“3rd Saturday A damp misty warm day I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½.
“4th Sunday A frozeney rainey morning & snowey forenoon cleared off about noon & was quite pleasant towards night & in the evening I did my choars was round the house a writing & makeing out my Post Office Acpt & went to bed 9 ½ Caroline Willa & Emma Barrus went to Methodist meeting in evening.
“5th Monday fine winter weather for the season I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold Meeting at night.
“6th Tuesday fine weather for January I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold Harris Chandler brought the second buck down & took the first one home.
“7th Wednesday cloudy & cool but good weather for the season rough roads I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 ½ or 10 sick.”
