Hiram E. Leonard Diary, November 17 - 23, 1875
“17th Wednesday A cold morning & the ground covered with snow for the first time this fall pretty cold, I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold.
“18th Thursday cold winter weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & cold.
“19th Friday fine cool weather for Nov I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly worne out with the rheumatism etc Sarah Paver left her Mother to go back East.
“20th Saturday A cool cloudy morning & pleasant warme day & cold again in the evening & night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ¼ nearly sick & afflicted with the rheumatism & a cold warm afternoon William & his mother went to Naperville to carry Mrs Jerry Pollard.
“21st Sunday A cold pleasant morning & day froze verry hard last night I did my choars was at the house all day wrote some etc went to bed at 9 nearly sick etc.
“22nd Monday fine weather for the season I did my choars was round home all day writing etc went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold.
“23rd Tuesday fine weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick rheumatism.”
