Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 29 - October 5, 1875
“29th Wednesday fine fall weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly worne out with the rheumatism Dr Hatch Edy & Wm Manning came out from Chicago to see the folks & on railroad business.
“30th Thursday fine fall weather but cold night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly worne out with the rheumatism.
“October 1st Friday fine fall weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly worne out with the rheumatism O B Herrick commenced carrying the mail from Naperville to Windfield & back.
“2nd Saturday fine fall weather cold nights I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism Dr Ira Hatch went back to Chicago at night in stage to Windfield.
“3rd Sunday fine weather for the season some cloudy and quite windy I did my choars went to the farm was at home the rest of the day & went to bed at 9 nearly sick Willa his mother & Mary Tart took a ride to the Naperville Cematry & back started about one PM.
“4th Monday fine fall weather but cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly worn out with the rheumatism.
“5th Tuesday cool cloudy damp weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went bed at 9 troubled with the rheumatism.”
