Hiram E. Leonard Diary, October 6 - 12, 1875
“6th Wednesday Some cloudy & damp I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 troubled with the rheumatism & cold fixed my stove today.
“7th Thursday cloudy damp disagreeable weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 about as usual Mrs Fredenhagen died tonight about 8 in the evening had been sick 6 or 8 weeks Herrick quit carrying the mail.
“8th Friday A pretty fine day but cool & cloudy I did my choars was at eth office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism Russel carried the mail today for the first time T W Watson thrashed at his house today Rogers.
“9th Saturday A cold cloudy morning heavey frost & began to rain about 10 & was damp the rest of the day & rained some I did my choars was at the office house all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & troubled with the rheumatism Walla & Caroline went to Naperville & _________ T W Watson thrashed one stack on mine before it rained with the Rogers machine Hoyts & Gloss A T Jones found his colt ______ ________.
“10th Sunday A cloudy damp day I did my choars was at the house all day wrote some etc went to bed at 9 troubled with the rheumatism Mrs A Fredenhagan was buried today funeral at the Baptist Church at 10 ½ AM funeral sermon preached by Rev. O W Van Osdel.
“11th Monday rather fine for the season some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold etc.
“12th Tuesday cool cloudy weather I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism commenced to thrash in mind today _____ _____.”
