Hiram E. Leonard Diary, January 26 - February 1, 1876
“26th Wednesday rather a fine day roads some muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Caroline & William & Ada Resseguie, Mrs Connell, Mrs Dady & D Kenyon went to Naperville in the stage & Kenyon & Mrs Connell jawed each other the most of the way home.
“27th Thursday rather a fine day but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & cold Nelson Stone came here from Iowa this evening 6 ½ in evening walked from Naperville eat supper & stayed all night.
“28th Friday had rained some last night & this morning a verry cloudy muddy day & verry windy night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & cold It cleared off tonight cold & the wind blew tremendous hard Wallace went to Mrs Curtises Eliza Mulnix had a son born about this time at Molene.
“29th Saturday A cold windy morning & day roads rough I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism Nelson Stone went to G Dillys with Perry this afternoon.
“30th Sunday A cold but pleasant morning & day the first fair Sunday we have had this month I did my choars was at the house the most of the day went to bed about 9 wrote some & choared som Caroline & Walla went to meeting in afternoon.
“31st Monday fine winter weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 troubled with the rheumatism.
“February 1st Tuesday fine weather for winter ground frozen I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 not verry well.”
