Hiram E. Leonard Diary, February 23 - March 1, 1876
“23rd Wednesday mild weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism John McGuire came to Connels this afternoon in the state from Naperville Dr Hatch came out from Chicago today.
“24th Thursday fine mild weather for Feb & the roads are agetting better I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 badly afflicted with the rheumatism John McGuire & Ellen Connell were married today at Aurora at the Catholic Church A nice carriage & span of fine horses & drive came from Aurora got here about 8 in morning took McGuire Ellen, Dennis & Kate to Aurora & brought them back about noon, about 3 or 4 he took them to Naperville and McGuire & Ellen took the 5 or 6 oclock train for Chicago.
“25th Friday fine weather for Feb I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism etc Dr Hatch went back to Chicago today Friday Many are to work on the mill damb these day.
“26th Saturday A fine day cloudy som towards night & rained in the evening & all night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly worne out with rheumatism Prayer meeting Adison Graves was at Juds & called down in evening Lewis Mink mooved into Meritt Coons house this afternoon.
“27th Sunday A cloudy rainey morning & cloudy nasty day & verry muddy grew cold towards night I did my choars was at home all day writing etc went to bed about 9 & was about sick with the rheumatism etc Caroline was about sick with the rheumatism today.
“28th Monday fine weather for the season but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism Caroline sick with the rheumatism these days.
“29th Tuesday fine mild weather for the season but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick with the rheumatism.
“March 1st Wednesday fine mild weather for March but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 about sick etc George Sidwell came here from Dentist Brasses & stayed all night.”
