Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 16 - 22, 1876
“16th Thursday A cold snowey morning with several inches of snow on the ground & a snowing I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at about 8 and went to bed about 9 nearly sick Snow 2 or 3 inches deep and a snowing amost all day a disagreeable day Doc Earnest mooved up from Naperville into the parsonage today.
“17th Friday A rough snow squalley day & disagreeable I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at night at 9 nearly sick Hanna Netsly come up to Connells.
“18th Saturday A cool rough day & some snow squalls with the ground frozen some & verry bad getting round I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out A Mr French P Beardsley nephew came here today.
“19th Sunday A cloudy snow squalley morning but a pleasant afternoon but cool & snow on the ground I did my choars was at the house the most of the day, wrot some choared etc went to bed about 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism.
“20th Monday rather a raw disagreeable day with a raw air I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold & the rheumatism.
“21st Tuesday cold raw weather with snow squalls etc I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 as usual.
“22nd Wednesday A cool raw day wind north & Northeast the most of the time & snow squalls I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism.”
