Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 9 - 15, 1876
“9th Thursday fine mild weather but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Burton D Pollard started from the Junction to West side of Iowa with his horses cutter goods etc.
“10th Friday A fine & verry warm day for March but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed about 9 as usual Patrick Barret mooved some of his goods to the house where Wm Gloss mooved out the Dr Waterman house We had thunder showers tonight & was more cool tomorrow morning.
“11th Saturday A cool cloudy morning & some windy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism etc grew cold tonight & froze, Barret mooved more goods tonight.
“12th Sunday A cold cloudy day ground frozen I did my choars was at the house the most of the day went to the farm in afternoon went to bed at 9 sick.
“13th Monday fine weather for the season but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism & a cold.
“14th Tuesday pretty fine weather for March but muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at about 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick.
“15th Wednesday A pretty fine day but cloud & looks like a storm & did snow during the night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism etc.”
