Hiram E. Leonard Diary, March 30 - April 5, 1876
“30th Thursday disagreeable snow squalley weather & muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly tuckered out & sick with the rheumatism.
“31st Friday Muddy disagreeable weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold & the rheumatism.
“April 1st Saturday rather a thawey day with a cold air I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with rheumatism Judson Graves was elected School Director Joseph Hawbecker nomenated for Collector.
“2nd Sunday A frozen rainey morning & verry disagreeable day I did my choars was round home all day choaring writing some & making out my returns I went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a cold etc.
“3rd Monday pretty fine weather for April but cold I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 9 not verry well Old goos began to lay.
“4th Tuesday fine weather for the season but cool I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick with a cold etc Wm Stone the Barkdolls man ran away while Henry was at Naperville election or town meeting A T Jones Assessor etc.
“5th Wednesday fine weather but cool I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 badly afflicted with the rheumatism.”
