Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 6 - 12, 1876
“6th Thursday fine weather for April & more mild & the roads a getting better I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick.
“7th Friday fine weather for the season roads better I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Mrs Hughs had a daughter born today Dr Smith attended A man by the name of Egan found ded at the Junction near the post office this morning Several women a visating here & 5 or 6 other places had visaters today, Earnst Woolf had a Dunker Sirape tonight they had to bind him.
“8th Saturday A fine pleasant mild day getting good I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly tiered out & sick with the rheumatism Earnst Woolf was tried for assat etc & fine $25 & bound over to keep the peace etc before Hudson old goos began to set on 4 eggs & lays 2 more afterwards.
“9th Sunday A fine pleasant day some cloudy in afternoon & cool air I did my choars was at home the most of the day went to the farm after breckfust & back went to bed about 9 afflicted with the rheumatism & cold.
“10th Monday cool raw cloudy weather & verry wet & muddy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Dr Hatch came from Chicago.
“11th Tuesday rainey disagreeable weather & the roads are verry mudy & bad I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 badly afflicted with the rheumatism.
“12th Wednesday Disagreeable weather & the ground verry wet I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick as usual.”
