Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 15 - 21, 1875
“15th Wednesday fine winter weather the ground bair & they are to work on the railroad both sides of the river I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out.
“16th Thursday rather a fine day but windy, grew cold towards night & was a cold night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 badly afflicted with the rheumatism Seba French started this morning Spencer Iowa to see Cheny & his wife.
“17th Friday A verry cold morning & day & night they quit work on the railroad both sides of the river I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism They did not work on the railroad today.
“18th Saturday A cold morning but moderated some in the afternoon I did my choars at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly worne out Ed Gary & Charly Smith called here today.
“19th Sunday A cold morning but rather a fine day & moderated some I did my choars was round home all day wrote some & choared some went to bed at 9 The folks went to meeting.
“20th Monday rather fine winter weather for the season I did my choars was at home in the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly worne out with the rheumatism etc.
“21st Tuesday fine winter weather for December I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out.”
