Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 16 - 22, 1875
“16th Wednesday fine growing weather some cool I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & nearly sick with the rheumatism.
“17th Thursday fine growing weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism Camp meeting near St Charles Redfields.
“18th Friday fine growing weather but cool I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism Mr See from near Janesville Wisconsin who is a going to carry the mail the next 4 years came with his goods & went to Naperville & put his goods into Will Morvens house & started back to Wisconsin again after his family etc James Fairbanks house was broken into this afternoon about 4 supposed to be 4 boys or young men & 2 guns clothes & money taken out Jat Sinuni was here A E Carpenter & Wm Hollister went home.
“19th Saturday fine growing weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism The Methodists had a quarterly meeting here this afternoon & evening & tomorrow Carpenter & Hollister his son in law went home with a new covered buddy for his son in law Hollister.
“20th Sunday A fine growing day some cloudy I did my choars was at home the most of the day went to the farm & back went to bed about 9 sick with rheumatism The Methodists had a Quarterly meeting here today my folks went all of them A Camp meeting near St Charles the Redfields held it.
“21st Monday fine hot growing weather some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & lame with the rheumatism Jerry Pollard sheared Willis sheep 8, had 50” wool it rained conciderable.
“22nd Tuesday fine growing weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & had the rheumatism George Daniels took morphene gas & was found in Aurora in a senseless state & the docters broughthim out of it, about these days.”
