Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 14 - 20, 1875
“14th Wednesday fine weather but looked some like rain I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & lame Watson drew two loads of hay & stacked for me after 4 oclock looked like rain Hix started for Joliet with Mrs Plummer & Dade Rogers at 11 oclock at night.
“15th Thursday fine weather some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly tiered out & lame etc Watson finished stacking my part of the old ground hay today & stacked some of theirs a shower last night.
“16th Friday a damp forenoon but fine day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with cold etc rained tonight again pretty hard etc.
“17th Saturday rather a rainey day & night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & lame A rainey day & night & verry muddy.
“18th Sunday some cloudy in morning but a fine cool day with conciderable air I did my choars was at home the most of the day was at the farm some in forenoon, quite muddy.
“19th Monday fine weather for the season & hot I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tiered out D M Connell the tea man came here tonight & left in the morning.
“20th Tuesday fine weather for July but hot I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism D Connell the tea man went to Chicago to go East.”
