Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 28 - August 3, 1875
“28th Wednesday A cloudy morning but rather a fine day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & tired out H B Wouden & wife Sebe Frenches wives brother came to Frenches from Painseville.
“29th Thursday A cloudy damp day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold etc.
“30th Friday a pretty good hay day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & cold Bridget Murphy took Mrs Amber to Wheaton this afternoon.
“31st Saturday A cloudy day & began to rain about 4 was a rainey night I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiered out & about sick with a cold & the rheumatism My folks went to Naperville afoot & back before it rained Wendel Hix mooved his bed & things from here this afternoon T W Watson finished stacking hay at my place as it began to rain.
“August 1st Sunday A cloudy misty morning & cloudy day I did my choars was at home all day wrote some & red som & choared some went to bed about 9 nearly sick.
“2nd Monday pretty fine weather for the season but cloudy & damp I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism.
“3rd Tuesday rather fine but some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Price Beardsly started for York State his wife was sick there & they sent for him Tonight Mr Greens store was attempted to be broaken open holes boared round in several places the outside celler door was open, Hurbot Hollister had left Spinks two or three weeks ago.”
