Hiram E. Leonard Diary, August 11 - 17, 1875
“11th Wednesday cloudy bad weather for harvest I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 afflicted with the rheumatism.
“12th Thursday A rainey bad day for work I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & afflicted with the rheumatism.
“13th Friday quite a possible day for work I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly tiered out.
“14th Saturday A fine day for harvesting I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism.
“15th Sunday A thunder shower in the morning, some cloudy all day but rather fine day I did my choars was at home all day except going to the farm went to bed at 9 nearly sick.
“16th Monday fine growing weather but bad & damp for harvesting I did my choars was round the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a cold Mrs Jane Sprague was taken in a fit or a shock of some kind this morning at Mr Puffers out East of here & when they got here with her she was senseless & remained so till she died next Saturday Mary Connell started for Chicago to go to California.
“17th Tuesday rather showerey bad weather for harvesting I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism.”
