Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 22 - 28, 1876
“22nd Thursday rather a fine pleasant day I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 and went to bed at about 9 afflicted with the rheumatism Wm P Griffeth worked on my backhouse on farm & about finished it.
“23rd Friday A verry hot day with quite a shower in forenoon I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at about 8 & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick with a cold Griffeth & George Sidwell went to Aurora today George stayed all night.
“24th Saturday A cloudy foggy morning & more or less all day with the sun scolding when shineing out I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism George Sidwell came from Aurora today Jonathan Pollards cow went to bull today.
“25th Sunday A verry hot but some cloudy day I did my choars was at the house the most of the day was at the office twice went to bed about 9 nearly sick Mrs Warderman called about sunset & stayed a short time George Watson & Kate Connell called at a little after sunset.
“26th Monday rather a cloudy showerey day & hot I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 3 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with rheumatism.
“27th Tuesday showered some in morning & rained conciderable during the night rather a hot day & sprinkled some I did my choars was at the office all day except going to my meals closed up at 8 ½ & went home & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick slep verry little thinking about the dand old Hoys plowing in front of my house about 3 feet deep in some places so that I could not get into my house with a team or up to the fence R Hoy plowed & scraped in front of my house he done it out of spite to without any cause and the publick did not require it or need it but he was determined to do it to be damd ugly & injure me Bell Shotts had a son borne this morning about 3 oclock.
“28th Wednesday rained the most of the last night and some this morning A cloudy damp day & sprinkled several times rained some in night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 nearly worne out with the rheumatism & cold.”
