Hiram E. Leonard Diary, June 29 - July 5, 1876
“29th Thursday A pretty fine day I did my chaors was at the office all day closed up at about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 bad off with the rheumatism etc Eva Pollard Burtons wife had a daughter born today verry quick L V Resseguie sheared Williams sheep I paid him 10/for shearing 11 sheep.
“30th Friday some cloudy & damp & misty It rained during the night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with the rheumatism & a bad cold.
“July 1st Saturday A cloudy damp misty day & rained some in day time & night I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 9 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick D C Brown went up to Sam Browns with Hoy to get pay for stone used on road.
“2nd Sunday A cloudy misty morning & forenoon more pleasant at noon I did my choars was round the house the most of the day was down to the office & wrote some & choared round some went to bed about 9 nearly sick & worne out.
“3rd Monday cloudy showerey weather bad for haying I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went up to the house & went to bed about 9 ½ about sick rained conciderable during the night.
“4th Tuesday A cloudy damp muddy morning grew better in middle of day rained again in the evening I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to the house & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & tiered out Frank Kline and Emma Barrus went out to near Rochell to his grandmothers & said they were a going to be married today.
“5th Wednesday cloudy damp disagreeable weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went home & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly tiered out & sick.”
