Hiram E. Leonard Diary, August 3 - 9, 1876
“3rd Thursday fine hot dry weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly worne out with the rheumatism.
“4th Friday rather a fine day & ground verry dry some showers in afternoon & evening I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed about 8 ½ nearly sick with the rheumatism etc Henry Barkdolls wife died this morning about one oclock, She miscarried & flowed to death in a short time.
“5th Saturday Some cloudy & misty more pleasant in afternoon & evening I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly worne out Henry Barkdolls wife was buried in the Warrenville Cemetary today funeral at 10 ½ at the Baptist Church, A Drunkerd from Lee County preached the funeral it was liked verry much A large congregation About 60 waggon came down from the house with the corpse.
“6th Sunday cloudy & damp in forenoon more pleasant in afternoon but hot I did my choars was at the house the most of the day called at the office in forenoon & in the afternoon went to bed about 9 oclock.
“7th Monday fine hot weather I did my choars was at eth office all day closed up at 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ badly afflicted with the rheumatism.
“8th Tuesday Fine pleasant hot weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with the rheumatism.
“9th Wednesday fine hot dry weather I did my choars was at the office all day closed up about 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ nearly worne out with the rheumatism.”
