Warrenviille Store Ornament, 2016 Historic Landmark Ornament

$12.00

The two-story section of this building was built in 1910 by William Manning, with the addition coming just four years later. It served as office space for the Manning real estate and insurance business before it became a store. In 1913 the Warrenville Store also became the post office with Ralph Manning as postmaster. The store and post office duties changed hands two times before Harry and Carrie (nee Lambe) Sleep purchased the building. The Sleep’s store offered quality meat and groceries, and Carrie’s penny-candy counter was very popular with the Holmes School patrons. Harry served as postmaster for almost 20 years. This ornament was produced thanks to a generous donation from the late Robert “Bob” Sleep, the son of Harry and Carrie. Bob was a lifelong Warrenville resident.
